TAM MARTIN is one of the most established and respected booking
agents in the independent entertainment circle. After working as Olivia
Records' publicist/booking agent from 1982-1986; she founded Beachfront
Bookings/Productions in 1987, a company specializing in scheduling and promoting
national concert tours for women artists. Tam also helped book the main stages at both the 1987 and 1993 Marches on Washington for lesbian and gay rights.
Tam has produced nearly 100 events including concerts, lectures, conferences,
seminars, festivals (The Pacific Northwest Women’s Music & Cultural Jamboree 1990-1994) and political fund raising dinners (Right to Pride, 1993-1997, to raise money for candidates and campaigns in Oregon that support equal rights for lesbians, gays and bisexuals) and has served two terms on the Steering Committee for AWMAC (The Association of Women’s Music & Culture).
She was presented the Jeanie C. Rae Award (from Women In The Arts, Inc.) in
1998 for the Advancement of Women’s Music & Culture.
Her most recent projects include booking national tours for Suzanne
Westenhoefer, Kate Clinton, Marga Gomez, Holly Near, Ferron, Teresa Trull & Barbara Higbie, Judy Small, Suede, and Cris Williamson (whom she represented for over 20 years). She presents workshops at festivals on ‘How to Bring Women’s Music and Cultural Events to Your Community’ and ‘The Art of the Deal: Negotiating Fair Performance Contracts.’
Tam has also assisted in booking the stages of Olivia Travel’s all-women
excursions; participated as a 1998 and 1999 GLAMA judge; a 2004, 2005 and 2006 OUT MUSIC AWARDS judge; and is a member of the Women in the Arts Council.
She lives in Portland, Oregon with her partner of seventeen years and their
cocker spaniel Olive.
